The Worst EU Lobby Awards 2006 are organised by Corporate Europe Observatory, Friends of the Earth Europe, LobbyControl and Spinwatch.

The Awards:

The prize for the Worst EU Lobbying will be awarded for the lobbyist or lobby group using the most deceptive, misleading, hypocritical and irresponsible tactics.

The Worst Privileged Access prize will be awarded to an EU institution or EU official who has their ears a little too open for one side of the story – perhaps putting narrow commercial interests ahead of the interests of the general public, or asking for feedback from only a select few.

This year, nominations were open to the general public via this website. More than 30 nominations were proposed by citizens and groups from around Europe. The organisers then short-listed the five gravest and most solid cases in each category – although many more would have deserved to be added to on line voting.
